Floating Your Furniture On FFXIV Consoles Will No Longer Be A Problem!

It’s no secret that some features aren’t always available to all PC and console players when it comes to FFXIV, especially when it comes to floating furniture, but now there’s a glitch that allows console players to enjoy this feature just like PC users.

Since the release of FFXIV, it has not only a stable PC player base, but has also been a hot topic on consoles. However, some features in Final Fantasy XIV are not very friendly to console players, such as Floating Furniture feature in the game, which has caused a lot of dissatisfaction among players. After all, if you spend a lot of FFXIV Gil to get furniture, but can’t arrange it the way you want, you will definitely feel regretful.

However, today we will introduce a glitch in the console that allows you to float any furniture on the console like PC players. Let’s take a look!

Floating Your Furniture On FFXIV Consoles Will No Longer Be A Problem!

Preparation

First of all, this glitch affects furniture classified as Furnishings and Tables, including things like Partitions, Rugs, and Tables. Here, I’m going to try to make this Riviera Armchair float.

Now to perform this glitch, you need a Stage Panel and some kind of Wall Shelf. I personally recommend you choose Riviera Wall Shelf because it is nice and wide. As with any of this twerk, it’s easy to do.

Settings

Next, let’s open the menu and head over to System. Then, open up Character Configuration. On the first tab, you’ll see this switch on the left. You’ll need to select it and switch from gamepad to PC control, otherwise you’ll see mouse mode on the screen.

Once you do this and close the menu, you’ll notice that the screen looks a little different, but that’s okay, don’t panic. You can navigate around the screen with your controller just like you would a mouse. You’ll then notice that the menu is now in the bottom right corner, and you can select it by pressing the same button on your controller as when you opened the menu. When you do that, you’ll see the cursor go there.

So now we can go into Social menu and select Housing using the arrow buttons, then navigate in X or A button to confirm.

Now, normally on consoles, your Housing menu is at the top of the screen, but in PC mode, it’s at the bottom. You can still navigate between your inventory and storage using the buttons you normally use. For example, pressing the big touch pad on PS5 controller will let you switch between your character’s inventory and your house’s inventory like normal.

How To Perform The Float Glitch?

Now, to actually perform the glitch you will first need to place Riviera Wall Shelf in your character’s inventory. Then place Riviera Armchair while taking note of the orange arrow that appears underneath it, that is your chair’s hitbox.

All furniture has a hitbox, just like all enemies in the game. This is important because now we are going to place Stage Panel close enough to the chair so that when we place Wall Shelf on Panel, Wall Shelf will interact with the chair’s hitbox.

Be aware that every housing item in FFXIV will be different. So, depending on what you want to float, you will need to do some trial and error.

Placing Furniture

But for now, you can pick up Wall Shelf after placing Panel and Armchair, then try to place it on Stage Panel as low as you can before it turns purple. So line it up underneath the chair and when you think it is ready, you have to press two buttons on your controller in quick succession.

  • For PS5 players, this will be X, then Circle.
  • For Xbox players, this will be A, then B.

This one is pretty simple. All you have to do is slide your thumb across the two buttons. If you slide correctly, your chair will now rise and leave the ground. Not much at first, but we can repeat the sliding motion until the chair is at the height we want.

Next, we put Wall Shelf back in our inventory and repeat the same steps: Position Wall Shelf, then slide.

Let us reiterate that all furniture floating through this glitch must have a minimum height to stay afloat, which can be learned through trial and error.

Using Virtual Mouse Mode

Please stay here, because there is a second half to this glitch. Since we need to keep Armchair suspended and at a certain height.

In order to keep your chair in the air, we have to lock it. We can do this by rotating it.

Do you see the circular arrow at the bottom of the screen? We have to click on it, but we can’t use the typical controller buttons. To achieve this, we have to enter Virtual Mouse Mode.

FFXIV Virtual Mouse Mode

To enter this mode, all you have to do is press L1 then R3, which means pressing the top of the right joystick. For Xbox players, though, it’s LB then R3.

If you did it correctly, you’ll see Virtual Mouse Mode at the top of the screen, and instructions on how to use it. When you’re in this mode, your right joystick will act like a mouse. You might be wondering why it’s now an arrow, instead of the pointing hand we’re used to? This indicates that your cursor is acting like a mouse and won’t respond to D-pad buttons.

Now that you’re in Virtual Mouse Mode, use your right joystick and move your new arrow towards the small circle arrow icon at the bottom of the screen. When the arrow is hovering over that icon, you’ll press L2 on PS5 or LT on Xbox to make it glow.

Once that icon lights up yellow, you can use the right joystick to position the arrow over Armchair, which will turn the arrow into an open hand and make the chair glow yellow as well.

When you see this, click on Armchair again using L2 or LT. Then you’ll see these little circle arrows underneath the chair. Now you don’t have to spin the chair like a top to get it to stay fixed because once you click it like this, it’s fixed and all you have to do is click anywhere else.

In this case, I recommend selecting a blank wall or floor and then pressing L2 or LT again. Now your chair will no longer be selected. And when you re-enter the apartment, it will stay floating.

Conclusion

That’s all you need to know about using this floating glitch on a console. It sounds like a lot when you follow the steps one by one like this, but it actually goes by pretty fast once you get the rhythm of it.

And since console players can just swipe on the controller with their thumbs, your process is actually much simpler than PC players. Because on PC, you have to click and then hit the escape key at the right time, which is an actual test of your reflexes.

All in all, hopefully this glitch tip can help you enjoy floating furniture just as much as PC players do! You can do whatever you want, good luck!
